WEAVE (Portugal)

Presentation

The aim of the European project WEAVE, an acronym for “Widen European Access to Cultural Communities via Europeana“, is to respond to the challenges posed by intangible cultural heritage, by developing a digital platform to activate the links between the tangible and the intangible cultural heritage of specific cultural communities in each of the partner countries. It seeks to preserve this invaluable asset and safeguard the transmission of cultural practices at risk in more peripheral communities, making them more accessible through “Europeana”.

The WEAVE consortium is composed of 12 European partner countries and funded by the European Commission (CEF-Telecom programme). The specific tasks undertaken by NOVA University of Lisbon (FCSH and FCT) focus on the development of software and 3D applications to annotate and transmit dance movements and performing arts; research has also begun on semiautomatic recognition of human gestures in creative environments.
