Mediatization of social domains and groups

Relevant lines of research pertaining to the media’s relationship with politics, culture, education, gender and generations.

Media skills and literacies

Action and engagement in media education, particularly of children and young people; analysis of patterns, trends and the evolution of hate narratives and information disorder phenomena.

Media innovation studies

A recent field that can extend to other groups; it has been boosted by the creation of Obi.Media – Media Innovation Observatory, whose aim is to analyse practices related to innovation in the media and in other cultural and creative industries.

History of the media and journalism

A field with a history of research with funded projects and an extensive literature on journalism in Portugal.

Publics and audiences

A well-established line of research, with a strong international presence, focused on publics and audiences in combination with the cultural industries.

Journalistic routines and practices

Redefinitions and reconfigurations in new ecosystems, such as journalistic narratives, investigative journalism, emotional work and mental health, among others.

Society, groups and everyday life are lived in the media.

Conducting research on them has never been more important.
