Semiotics of culture, textualities and subjectivities

Fundamental research on communication, with a focus on the relations between languages and the production of subjectivities.

Mediation of memory and heritage

Heritage studies and mediation practices covering different fields of culture, knowledge, and memory, namely vernacular, colonial, and post-colonial. Investigations into the patrimonialization of culture and nature, as well as mediation and production of archives, using communication practices and technologies, digital humanities, sustainability strategies, culture of participation, and citizen science. .

Cultural, Media and Visual Studies

Studies on visual culture, media archaeology and theory focusing on visual arts and visual media (photography, film, and digital images). This agenda considers the intersection of visuality with aesthetic, epistemic, social, and political issues (namely, gender, ethnicity, and memory).

Culture, Technology and Arts

Contemporary studies in culture, technology, and the arts, particularly on digital ecology and the fundamental disruptions of the cybernetic transition and AI (their anthropological, epistemological, political and aesthetic implications). Focus on the Anthropocene and the post-human issues, the hyperindustrialization of culture and knowledge, and the contemporary role of thought and the arts.

Ecomedia and new epistemologies

A reflection on the concepts of Ecology and Ecocritical Studies applied to the media and the social, cultural and artistic systems, including their multiple relations with the surrounding environments, in search of answers to the challenges of sustainable transition.

We foster the production of critical objects that challenge the frontier between art and research.
